Nutritional Counseling in Belmont

We understand how intricately the body’s systems work together. The foods a patient eats can have a powerful impact on the neuromuscular system and internal workings; which means changes in diet can dramatically enhance the effectiveness of chiropractic techniques.

Inflammation caused by dietary factors can create digestive disorders and aggravate many of the conditions chiropractors and acupuncturists treat, including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, and neuritis. Combining nutritional counseling with chiropractic techniques can minimize systemic inflammation and thereby reduce pain as well as other symptoms.

Nutritional counseling can take a variety of forms—most commonly prescribing dietary supplements, personalized recipes, real food resources, meal plans, and dispensing literature about nutrition. However, effective counseling also includes:

  • Monitoring a diet diary.
  • Conducting and analyzing lab tests.
  • Creating a customized dietary plan.
  • Monitoring the patient’s improvement.

Healthy Eating a Macronutrient-Rich Approach

  • Safely lose unwanted pounds and inches
  • Cleanse harmful impurities from your system
  • Burn fat and build muscle
  • Naturally, reduce cravings and appetite
  • Absorb balanced nutrients
  • Customized nutrition plan programs

Our Nutrition Philosophy

  • Eat whole, unprocessed foods, preferably organic.
  • Eat beef, lamb, game, organ meats, poultry, and eggs from pasture-fed animals.
  • Eat wild fish (not farm-raised), fish eggs, and shellfish from unpolluted waters.
  • Eat full-fat milk products from pasture-fed cows, preferably raw and/or fermented, such as raw milk, whole yogurt, kefir, cultured butter, full-fat raw cheeses, and fresh and sour cream.
  • Use animal fats, such as lard, tallow, egg yolks, cream, and butter liberally.
  • Use only traditional vegetable oils—extra virgin olive oil, expeller-expressed sesame oil, small amounts of expeller-expressed flax oil, and tropical oils—coconut oil, palm oil, and palm kernel oil. Do not heat the fragile ones, buy organic, and refrigerate.
  • Take cod liver oil regularly to provide at least 10,000 IU of vitamin A and 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day.
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic. Use vegetables in salads and soups, or lightly steamed with butter, ghee, and olive oil.
  • Use whole grains, legumes, and nuts that have been prepared by soaking, sprouting, or sour leavening to neutralize phytic acid, enzyme inhibitors, and other anti-nutrients.
  • Include enzyme-rich Lacto-fermented vegetables, fruits, beverages, and condiments in your diet on a regular basis.
  • Prepare homemade stocks from the bones of pastured chicken, beef, and lamb fed non-GMO feed, and wild fish, and use liberally in soups, stews, gravies, and sauces.
  • Use filtered water for cooking and drinking.
  • Use unrefined salt and a variety of herbs and spices for food interest and appetite stimulation.
  • Make your own salad dressing using raw vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and a small amount of expeller-expressed flax oil, garlic, etc.
  • Use traditional sweeteners in moderation, such as raw honey, maple syrup, maple sugar, date sugar, coconut sugar, dehydrated cane sugar juice (sold as Rapadura), and stevia powder.
  • Use only unpasteurized wine or beer in strict moderation with meals.
  • Cook only in stainless steel, cast iron, ceramic, glass, or good-quality enamel.
  • Use only natural, food-based supplements.
  • Get plenty of sleep, exercise, and natural light.

Exercise Coaching in Belmont

Exercise is another complementary treatment that often goes hand in hand with chiropractic techniques—particularly for the treatment of lower back pain. Many studies have cited the importance of exercise, along with spinal manipulation, in the treatment of acute and chronic lower back pain. Exercise and acupuncture, help strengthen the lower back and abdominal muscles to better support the spine, keeping patients limber and improving their quality of life.

It’s also helpful for relieving neck pain. Studies have proven a combination of exercise and chiropractic techniques to be more effective at treating neck pain than any other noninvasive intervention.

We’ll prescribe pain-relieving stretches between spinal adjustments or incorporate physiotherapy into a patient’s overall treatment plan.
